Spicedemy™ is the flagship learning academy of the Spice Without Borders ecosystem.

Through a six-month, cohort-based programme, participants progress through a structured six-step changemaker journey that develops purpose, leadership, innovation, collaboration, and impact.

Guided by the Purpose to Impact™ methodology and grounded in the SPICE Framework—Strength, Purpose, Innovation, Creativism, and Equity—participants move from self-discovery to lifelong leadership while building the knowledge, practical experience, professional portfolio, and networks needed to create sustainable change.

By graduation, participants leave not only with a certificate, but with proven experience, collaborative projects, and a lifelong place within the Spice Without Borders ecosystem

Spicedemy helps every participant discover their unique pathway and develop the confidence, competencies and collaborative spirit to lead meaningful transformation.

The SPICE Framework

Everything within Spicedemy is guided by the five values that define the Spice Without Borders movement.

  • Strength: Build resilience, confidence, and leadership by drawing on your unique talents, experiences, and lived realities.
  • Purpose: Develop clarity about the positive change you are called to create.
  • Innovation: Design practical, sustainable solutions to complex challenges.
  • Creativism: Harness creativity, storytelling, and culture to inspire ideas and mobilize action.
  • Equity: Champion inclusion, dignity, and opportunity so that no one is left behind.

These values shape every learning experience, every project and every collaboration throughout the programme.


The Five Changemaker Archetypes

Every participant begins their journey by completing the Changemaker Discovery Assessment, a strengths-based assessment that helps identify their natural approach to creating impact.

The five archetypes are not labels or limitations. They represent preferred ways of contributing within collaborative teams.

  • Activists: Advocates for justice, mobilises communities and amplifies unheard voices. Motto:“I speak up for change.”
  • Creatives: Uses storytelling, arts, media and culture to inspire transformation. Motto:“I inspire change.”
  • Entrepreneurs: Creates sustainable value by building enterprises that solve community challenges. Motto:“I build solutions.”
  • Initiators: Brings people together, launches initiatives and mobilises collective action. Motto:“I make change happen.”
  • Innovators: Designs bold ideas and develops new approaches to solving complex problems. Motto:“I create new possibilities.”

Most participants discover strengths across several archetypes. Understanding these strengths enables participants to contribute more effectively within multidisciplinary teams.


The Six-Step Changemaker Journey

Every participant progresses through a structured journey of personal growth, practical learning and collaborative action.

STEP ONE — DISCOVER PURPOSE

“Know yourself before changing the world.”

The journey begins with self-discovery.

Participants develop a deeper understanding of who they are, what they value, and the communities they hope to serve. They explore the systems shaping society while recognising their own strengths, passions, and leadership potential.

Through the Global Alumni Network and ecosystem platforms, they continue learning, sharing knowledge, supporting new cohorts, and expanding their impact across communities.

No formal leadership position is required.

We select for potential, curiosity, integrity and commitment—not titles or previous experience.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a resident of East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda or Burundi).
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating positive social or environmental change.
  • Have a community challenge, idea, initiative or enterprise they wish to develop.
  • Be comfortable communicating in English and using basic digital tools.
  • Commit to the full six-month hybrid programme, including in-person convenings in Eldoret every two months.
  • Respond promptly to programme communications.
  • Pay the programme tuition fee of KES 24,000 upon admission.
