Spice Without Borders – Building a Culture of Respect and Accountability

At Spice Without Borders, every participant, mentor, partner, and team member is a representative of our mission. Integrity, respect, and inclusion are the cornerstones of our work. This Code of Conduct is a shared agreement that guides how we engage with one another—online and offline.

By being part of the Spice Without Borders community, you agree to uphold these standards. Violations may result in removal from our programs and loss of associated benefits.

Our Commitments as a Community of Changemakers

  1. Zero Tolerance for Discrimination or Harassment
    We do not tolerate any form of harassment or illegal discrimination. We actively promote diversity, equality, and inclusion. Anyone who violates these standards—including participants, staff, mentors, donors, or partners—may be removed from our network.
  2. Punctuality and Preparedness
    We respect each other’s time by being punctual, prepared, and self-directed. We complete assignments on time and make effective use of the resources available to us.
  3. Safe and Open Environment
    We foster a welcoming space where everyone—regardless of role—feels seen, heard, and respected. We address issues directly and respectfully, engage in constructive dialogue, and contribute to a team-oriented culture.
  4. Honesty and Transparency
    We communicate truthfully, avoiding omissions or misrepresentations. We strive to be open, culturally sensitive, and authentic in our interactions.
  5. Helping Each Other
    We support each other generously and respond when help is needed. We respect each other’s time and keep our requests clear and focused.
  6. Community Engagement
    We proactively give back to our communities—without expectations—by applying our knowledge and skills to local impact.
  7. Gratitude and Recognition
    We acknowledge the support of mentors, staff, and peers. We accept help with humility and express appreciation for others’ contributions.
  8. Conflict of Interest Disclosure
    We disclose any conflicts of interest as early as possible and err on the side of full transparency.
  9. No Gossip
    We avoid spreading rumors or negative talk. Feedback is offered constructively and directly to the relevant party.
  10. Confidentiality and Respect for Boundaries
    We protect private and sensitive information, respect personal space and belongings, and are mindful of physical and emotional boundaries.
  11. Clear and Respectful Communication
    We communicate simply and respectfully. We listen actively, avoid interrupting, and apologize when needed. We provide donors and partners with timely updates as agreed.
  12. Responsibility and Respect for Rules
    We act with responsibility—toward our ideas, laws, resources, and each other. We follow organizational guidelines and Kenyan laws, conserve resources, and respect shared spaces and agreements.
  13. Embracing Diversity and Inclusion
    We welcome diverse perspectives, opinions, and beliefs. We cultivate empathy, tolerance, and harmony, and make intentional efforts to include all members, including those with disabilities.
  14. Intervening and Reporting Violations
    We take responsibility for maintaining our culture by intervening when we see harm and reporting violations through the appropriate channels.
  15. Responsiveness and Accessibility
    We commit to clear, timely communication—ensuring our stakeholders can reach us and receive responses within reasonable timeframes.
  16. Respectful Online and Offline Participation
    We engage respectfully in all forums. We don’t engage in online bullying or anonymous criticism. We stand behind our words with accountability.
  17. Keeping Commitments
    We honor our promises. If unforeseen circumstances arise, we acknowledge them and take responsibility to make things right.
  18. Mission-Driven Mindset
    We prioritize the goals of our initiatives and the communities we serve—above personal interest.
  19. Commitment to Growth
    We invest in personal and professional development and support the growth of those around us.
  20. Failing with Integrity
    If our projects or ventures face challenges or closure, we inform stakeholders promptly and reflect openly to learn and grow from the experience.
